Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, is one of the first national parks in the United States.  President Teddy Roosevelt is largely responsible for the maintenance of the Grand Canyon as well as other national parks.  Roosevelt was an avid outdoorsman and used to frequent the Grand Canyon National Park where he would hunt and fish in the Colorado River.

Each year, millions of people visit the Grand Canyon National Park either to observe the scenery or to enjoy the vast activities that the park offers.  Whether you like camping, hiking or rafting, there is something for you to do in the Grand Canyon National Park.

At the Grand Canyon National Park, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views in the entire world.  There are many different ways to take a scenic tour of the Grand Canyon.  You can take a helicopter ride over the canyon, which will allow you to experience the panoramic view of the entire canyon.  If you choose, you can venture into the valley of the canyon either by foot or by mule.

There are many different options available to you when taking a scenic tour of the Grand Canyon National Park.  The most popular point to get the best view of the canyon is from the South Rim.  Here you can behold what it took nature almost six million years to create.   The Outside Ledge is one of the main tourist points that overlook the Grand Canyon and is one that gives the average sightseer the best view from the ground.

Until you actually visit the Grand Canyon National Park, you have no idea how vast it really is.  The Grand Canyon National Park is 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide in some places.  It is one of the larges parks in the entire world.  The valley of the canyon, which was created by the Colorado River, is filled with caves and different channels.

A sightseeing tour of the Grand Canyon National Park can be as simple as flying over the park in a helicopter or visiting the valley of the canyon by mule back.  Depending on the amount of physical activity that you want to embark on during your vacation tour, you can find a variety of activities in the park.  Many people enjoy hiking and camping throughout the park, although hiking from the river to the rim, or vice versa, in one day is not encouraged as the change in altitude can cause one to be overcome.

Strangely enough, it was not until just over 140 years ago that the Grand Canyon National Park began to be explored.  Prior to that, this vast natural wonder was largely untouched by European Americans, although Native Americans considered the canyon valley to be holy ground and made annual pilgrimages to the river.

In addition to the varied elevations of rock throughout the Grand Canyon National Park, the canyon is also known for being very colorful.  It seems as if each layer of rock has a different hue of color which makes the view something to really behold.  To see some of the best varieties of color in the Grand Canyon National Park, take a look from the North Rim at sunset.  Although the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park is not as popular a lookout point as the South Rim, at sunset, the scenery is truly something to behold.
